I just studied aorabd in Florence, and I found it a lot easier to just buy a simcard there. If you already have a cell phone from the states, just have them unlock it for international calls before you leave, then go to a cell phone store in florence and buy a sim card. I got mine for 20 euros, as opposed to buying a phone, where the cheapest I saw was 45 euros. after you get the simcard, you put money on it, and they charge you a small fee for each call you make, but incoming calls are free.have fun in italy! florence is beautiful!
